Generating Impact: Sustaining local climate action in uncertain times

Facilitator: Carole Hammond,
Executive Officer, Goulburn Murray Climate Alliance

Innovative Thinking: Latest research on climate and local government

This session brings together emerging research and practical experience exploring the evolving role of local government in responding to climate change. From equity and energy justice in climate policy, to the governance of emerging energy risks, building ensuring organisational capability, tracking adaptation progress and translating resilience into community action, the session examines some of the key challenges facing councils as climate action becomes increasingly complex. Drawing together research and real-world practice, it will explore how councils can move beyond simply delivering climate actions to better understand who benefits, how risks are managed, whether capability is improving and how meaningful progress can be measured and sustained over time. (SLIDES)

Facilitator: Pete Mercouriou, PhD candidate, Senior Sustainability Officer, City of Greater Geelong (energy justice and equity)

Lachlan Hensey, PhD candidate, Deakin University (risk governance)
Aaron Buncle, Masters candidate (climate risk management capability in councils)
Tia Brullo, Research Fellow, University of Melbourne (tracking adaptation progress)
Kate Archdeacon, Program Coordinator, My Smart Garden (climate resilience through food growing and community education)
