Sustainability at the conference

In order to "walk the talk" the 2019 conference incorporated the following sustainability features:

  • 10% of the venues electricity is powered by renewables through the Melbourne Renewable Energy Project (MREP) power purchase agreement
  • Vegetarian and vegan catering was provided by the venue
  • There was no single use plastic at the event
  • The venue has an onsite organic dehydrator and in 2018 they diverted 67 per cent of all waste from landfill
  • The venue is close to mainline and regional train stations, tram and bus routes so delegates can take more sustainable forms of transport
  • A contribution towards a Gold Standard verified offset project in Timor Leste was made to offset carbon emissions from the conference
  • The program printing was done by a carbon neutral printer on 100% recycled paper using a waterless printing process
  • We used Humanitix as our ticketing site. They are a not-for-profit organisation, and any profit they make from our priced tickets (i.e. for non-government attendees) fund scholarships for First Nation children
